

After spending the night at the Navy Lodge at Naval Air Station
Brunswick, we headed further north into Maine to check out the Boothbay Railway
Village. However before we left the base, Adam managed to get a couple of photos
of an old Neptune maritime patrol aircraft similar to one that his Dad used to
work on whilst in the RAAF.

Boothbay Rail Village

The village offers the unique environment of a collection of
buildings to form a rural village, some amazingly restored old cars and of
course a fully operational narrow gauge steam locomotive. Thankfully the weather
wasn't as cold as shown in the photo above.
It was certainly very interesting to see the old style buildings
(local store, one room school house - with working bell as Adam found out and
black smith) that have been carefully restored and furnished to depict the time
period when steam trains graced the rail tracks but I'm not sure you'd go out of
your way to see it. If you're in the area it's well worth a look and we'd
recommend you stop by but you can see these things at countless other historic
areas around the country.
