The Battle of Gettysburg was a (or possibly the) turning point in the Civil War. After four days of what would be the bloodiest battle in the Civil War, the Union was victorious and the second invasion of General Robert E. Lee's Confederate Army had been halted. This is often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Confederacy" and is the closest they came to winning the Civil War. A high price was certainly paid by both sides, with 51,000 casualties (both sides combined).
Interestingly Gettysburg was also provided the setting for possibly Abraham Lincoln's most famous address - "Four scores and seven years ago......"
So far we've only driven through the town and had dinner there in an 18th century little tavern with our friends Jeff and Nicole Woolford. They certainly must have been small back in the 1700's because the roof is low and everything is small.
There is a Gettysburg battle reenactment being held from 6 - 8 July 07, which we are hoping to get to. We will update this page with more information on the town and battle after that.
