England acquired the Pennsylvania region in 1664 with the capture of New York and in 1681 King Charles II granted Pennsylvania to William Penn, a Quaker. Philadelphia was actually the capital of the US from 1776 to 1800 and it was there that the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776 and the US Constitution drawn up in 1787. Pennsylvania is another one of the states that has featured heavily in the history of the US. Valley Forge of Revolutionary War fame and Gettysburg, the site of the pivotal Civil War battle are both in Pennsylvania. Also the Liberty Bell is located across from Independence Hall in Philadelphia.
As mentioned some major points of interest include Valley Forge and Gettysburg but there are many more around this state. They include: Independence Hall, The Franklin Institute Science Museum, Pennsylvania Dutch region and the star case the Rocky runs up in his movies.
