We spent New Years Eve in Savannah. We managed to arrive there just before lunch so we parked the car and walked down to River Street and found 'Spanky's' bar and had a typical American pub meal - yep, a burger. Very nice though. Adam's friend back in Australia, Dru, found this place while he was posted to South Carolina a couple of years ago. Dru's nick-name for Adam is 'Spanky' so we thought it was a good place to eat. We actually spent midnight in that same bar, but not before we tried out all the others along the way. After lunch, we hopped on yet another tour bus, which took us all around the city and informed us of all the history of various old houses and churches. Another wonderful place to visit, I preferred the streets here than Charleston but the houses are not quite as grand.
We visited the place where Forrest Gump sat on the park bench and told his lift story over a box of chocolates. If you click on the Tom Hanks picture you can view the official Forrest Gump website. The park bench no longer resides there, but have been moved to the Savannah museum.
