General James Oblethorpe established the first permanent settlement in Georgia in 1733 as a refuge for English debtors. During the Civil war it was a Confederate (south) stronghold and was the scene of extensive military action during the war. So much so that the Union (north) general, William Sherman burned Atlanta and then tore up the state on his march to Savannah in 1864.
Atlanta is the largest city in the state and is a hub for travel and communication for the southeast. Some of the main tourist attractions include: Savannah, Atlanta airport (you've just got to see if for the size), the Little White House at Warm Springs where President Franklin D. Roosevelt died, Chattanooga National Military Park and the enormous Confederate Memorial at Stone Mountain.
So far we've only visited Savannah but Adam is hoping to at least get to Augusta, home of the Masters Golf tournament. Not sure of his chances of getting on the course though.
