Austin is the capital of Texas and like just about every other state in the US, the capital building looks a lot like the US Capital building in DC. Maybe they got a bulk discount on the design????
After San Antonio we headed to Austin by a round-about sort of way. Instead of taking the Interstate we got off the main roads and headed into the hills and to a little town called Fredericksburg. It still has very strong German links but with a very Texas feel (if that's possible). We stopped in for lunch, a bit of wine tasting and just a general look around. It's a great little town and as it turns out not far from the ranch that our friends Tobin and Melody recently purchased.

Austin is another beautiful city and is actually a sister city to Adelaide. That could explain why Carol felt so at home. It is also home to Texas University (the Longhorns) but seeing we have good friends from both Texas A&M and Oklahoma University (both sworn rivals of Texas University we had to steer clear of there.
The capital building is purchased high up on hill and allows for a good view of the city. After the drive through the hills we spent the afternoon walking around the capital building and the grounds. Both were very impressive and a relaxing way to spend an afternoon after doing a lot of driving. Alexander was still getting use to our hectic touring pace at this stage so it was a good break for him.
