Texas, the land of big things is certainly very proud of it's heritage and that fact that they are Texans. During it's history it has been a part of Mexico, an Independent Republic of Texas and a state of the United States. Second only to Alaska in land area, Texas is extremely rich in natural resources (oil, coal, cotton, beer, cotton etc) and tourists inject some $44 billion per year into the state economy visiting numerous state parks, recreational areas and points of interests.

We head to Texas over Easter 2008 to catch up with friends from dancing (Mark and Kira) who had moved to Houston for Mark's work, Australian friends living in San Antonio and just to have a general look around. After a day's delay due to our flight being canceled as a result of bad weather we finally got to Texas and it certainly didn't disappoint. Unfortunately because of the delay we missed out on going to the rodeo but hopefully we can get to one in the future.

We visited Houston, San Antonio, Austin and various places in between. The housing, landscape and in some respect the people was very reminiscent of Australia. During our 5 day stay we hardly scratched the surface of things to do in Texas.

Our friends Jeff and Nicole recently moved to San Antonio (Jeff's a doctor in the Air Force) so I'm sure another visit to Texas will be on the cards at some stage before we leave.
