After spending the night at the Navy Lodge at Naval Air Station Brunswick, we headed further north into Maine to check out the Boothbay Railway Village. However before we left the base, Adam managed to get a couple of photos of an old Neptune maritime patrol aircraft similar to one that his Dad used to work on whilst in the RAAF.
The village offers the unique environment of a collection of buildings to form a rural village, some amazingly restored old cars and of course a fully operational narrow gauge steam locomotive. Thankfully the weather wasn't as cold as shown in the photo above.
It was certainly very interesting to see the old style buildings (local store, one room school house - with working bell as Adam found out and black smith) that have been carefully restored and furnished to depict the time period when steam trains graced the rail tracks but I'm not sure you'd go out of your way to see it. If you're in the area it's well worth a look and we'd recommend you stop by but you can see these things at countless other historic areas around the country.
