A French explore by the name of Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac and his convoy first landed and claimed the area surrounding Detroit in around 1701. The English later took the area in the French and Indian War in 1763 and because of its close proximity to Canada, was in constant dispute between the English and US until after the War of 1812.

Michigan is home to the three major American auto builders (Ford, GM and Chrysler) is bordered by four of the five Great Lakes. It is also a major manufacturing area for other house hold goods and automotive and aviation components.

Points of interest include: the Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, the Great Lakes and summer resorts along the inland lakes and waterways.

We traveled to Detroit for the weekend mainly to see Michael Bublé in concert but also check out the area. Detroit is probably not a place we'd recommend if you're only in the US for a short time, though the Henry Ford Museum is amazing and you could easily spend a day or two wondering around the museum and the neighboring Greenfield Village.
