The Wild Turkey Distillery is located in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky along what is referred to as the Bourbon Trail. Well known in Australia we figured it was a must see as we passed through the area from Tennessee to Dayton. Unfortunately we missed the tour but we did purchase a few things from the visitor centre.
The Wild Turkey bourbon has been produced in Lawrenceburg for over 100 years but they didn't take on the name Wild Turkey until 1940 when friends of the distillery executive nicknamed the bourbon Wild Turkey following an annual wild turkey hunt. Since then the name has become famous around the world.
The distillery itself is not much to look at from the outside. Instead it looks like old factories, just without all the big smoke stacks.
We did pick ourselves up a bottle of the Wild Turkey Rare Breed Bourbon. Now we just have to open and sample it. Hopefully it is as good as the normal Wild Turkey Bourbon.
