Anyone who complains there is nothing to do at Disney World is very hard to please. Nestled on about 46 square miles of land just outside of Orlando is the Disney World complex. It contains the Magical Kingdom (same as Disneyland in Los Angeles), the Epcot Center, Animal Kingdom, two water parks, at least five golf courses, the MGM Disney studio, Downtown Disney (shops / restaurants / bars / nightclubs) and countless hotels and resorts. Apparently so far they have only used about a third of the land available. They are going to leave another one third as natural habitat and the remaining one third will be developed at a later date. That said, it's huge already.
Unfortunately Adam had to go to a work conference at one of the Disney resorts for a week. This one had a Mexican theme but with a posting to the US you have to take the good with the bad. Oh well!!!!!!
The work conference was ok but it did allow us to squeeze in a holiday to Florida.
After flying into Orlando Adam made the most of the stunning Florida golf courses and tried his luck at one of the Disney courses. It seems Mickey Mouse leaves his impression everywhere.
The conference ended early one afternoon so Adam and another Aussie bloke at the conference headed to one of the water parks. It was ok but certainly not as good as Wet 'n' Wild on the Gold Coast. That said they did have a wave pool with waves so real you could body surf them. You just had to dodge the couple of thousand people also in the wave pool trying to escape the heat.
Carol arrived on the Friday and after getting in from the airport we headed straight to the Magical Kingdom. Adam had been to Disney in Japan and Carol Disneyland in LA but it was still a lot of fun to check it all out, all over again. There was no one stand out highlight, it was all fantastic. Big kids and little kids would love this place. We went on just about every ride there, except for two of the roller coasters and if you pick the time of the year you go, you won't have to battle the crowds or the long waits for each ride.
With anything like this though, it can get expensive. Just staying at some of the Disney resorts can be expensive. Meals aren't that cheap and an all day ticket to Disney is over $70 per adult. They do offer after 2pm and after 4pm tickets. On some of the nights, the parks are also open late (midnight sometimes) so if you can go after 4pm and stay late, you could certainly save some money that way.
That said the whole Disney World experience was fantastic. It certainly brings out the kid in everyone and we highly recommend that if you get the opportunity to see one, either Disneyland or Disney World, it's well worth it.
