Most states within the US seem have some kind of alcohol distilling or making capability. The west coast, around the Napa Valley is probably the most well known in the US. That said Virginia has a small wine area so in typical Adelaide style we decided to check it out.

We went with a couple of friends from dancing who also enjoy a glass or two of the good stuff. The day we chose to go was freezing. We'd recently had snow and because of the temperature change that went through turned to ice. Thankfully the roads were clear but we had some trouble walking from the car to the cellar door, very slippery indeed.

The wines we sampled were ok but they are definitely better at producing whites rather than reds. The reds we tried didn't even come close to comparing to the quality in Australia.
