The Vermont region was first explored and claimed by the French in 1609. The first English settlers didn't move to the area until 1724 and the gained control of the area in 1763 after the French and Indian Wars. In the early days of the Revolutionary War, the Green Mountain Boys led by Ethan Allen, captured Fort Ticonderoga from the British in May 1775.

Vermont actually leads the nation in production of monument granite, marble and maple syrup. Some of the major tourist attractions include: numerous ski fields, hunting, fishing, Lake Champlain and the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory.

During our North East trip of Oct 07, we drove through Vermont, stopping over night Barre, which is about 15 min drive from the capital, Montpelier. We were there in the Fall season and like all the other areas we passed through on this trip, the colors of the leaves make for some spectacular viewing.

The highlight of the trip for Carol was certainly the Teddy Bear Factory.
